The Eagle has Landed

Wee Picasso created this Eagle for our local River Festival. Her class helped tag baby Eagles this spring. We are very fortunate to have many Eagles around our home. Age 8

How to Weave

First - Get a Loom 

 Next - put the colour yarn you want on the loom 

 Then - put the yarn in the shuttle for the loom - as many (colours) as you want 

Last - put the shuttle in and out and in and out of the yarn

Wee Lighthouse 2014

Wee Picasso has been chosen to participate in a creative art event for 2014 Sesquicentennial celebrations on PEI. Lighthouse2014 has chosen 20 artists to add their creative flair to a magnificent 6ft lighthouse sculpture. These will be displayed in the City of Summerside during the summer of 2014. Wee Picasso's lighthouse will be sponsored by Vector Aerospace which is a provider of maintenance, repair and overhaul services for fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft operators around the globe. Which is really exciting for any 7 year old! I see a big interest in helicopters and airplanes coming soon. Wee Picasso's friends Allan & Parry at Wired Trust will be providing a mini studio for her lighthouse and providing support in supplies and with the Teenangels will be adding their "handiwork" to the design. Lighthouse 2014 will be hosting a gala event in June - until then we will only be sharing small details of the work in progress. Needless to say - Wee Picasso is excited to participate in this BIG project and to add her small part to the 2014 party!

The Universe

Unbeknownst to me - Wee Picasso has an understanding of our Galaxy and the Universe. 

I must say the Universe looks really funky!

Stop, Block & Tell #stopcyberbullying

Our friend Parry Aftab was looking for some artwork. Stop, Block and Tell is the motto she is teaching Canadian students in regards to online safety. Wee Picasso and I designed this concept (she has attended a summit on this topic and a meeting with our local gov't officials.) then she executed it in paint. She choose the mean words to write under the "block" section.

#Stopcyberbullying + Art for Premier

Wee Picasso made this artwork at my office today while preparing for a meeting with the Premier of the province. She is on a task force for youth to Stop Cyber Bullying lead by Parry Aftab. I have prints from Yellowknife artists Dave Brosha and Robbie Craig of the Northern Lights. This is her picture of the Northern lights with a reminder to Stop Cyber Bullying, she gave it to the Premier of our province today.

One Fancy Peacock

Wee Picasso painted this lovely Peacock this weekend. She found a picture online that she liked and drew it on the canvas. Then layered the tail colours - and finished it with some swirls from a brush marker.

Seven years of paintings for Mother's Day

Mother & Baby - Drawing Series

This is a series we started tonight. Wee Picasso picks if she is doing the Mother or Baby - then we use the same page to create the image. We really enjoyed making these and I think there will be more in this series. Wee Picasso feels they should be in a gallery show.

Grade One - Egyptian Cats

These are some pictures from teaching art with Wee Picasso’s grade one class. They are a fantastic group of children and it is a great way to get to know her classmates.

I showed them images of Egyptian art, showed them how much they loved their cats and would included them in their artwork. We talked about hieroglyphics as well - and gave each child a guide to use to write their name in hieroglyphics.

I encourage you to get involved with your child’s school. Go to the Home & School meeting, talk to their teacher, help out at lunchtime or in the library. The children will get to know you, you will get to know the staff. The benefits are huge.

I taught them how to draw a cat then went around and helped them with their hieroglyphics.

Then they used oil pastels to colour their artwork. We did a wash of blue tempura paint. The kids thought is was great.

Butterflies & Birds

Two recent sketches by Wee Picasso. She now has a big tool box which is full of her art supplies. Just like her Dad's! She also has a new set of markers from Christmas as well. A girl needs new markers! Her little brother is working hard at making circles..perhaps he will have his first drawing online soon!
